Exploring Coffin Bay
You will be picked up from your Port Lincoln accommodation between at 7.30am – 8.00am by prior arrangement and once on board we’ll start our day heading to Coffin Bay National Park, which features some of the most scenic coastline in South Australia. Take your shoes and walk on the footprint free Almonta Beach and later have morning tea overlooking Coffin Bay National Park with spectacular 360-degree views.
Next its time for the tour highlight boarding the boat with Pure Coffin Bay Oysters as we head approximately 16km out to our oyster lease at the entrance to the Coffin Bay water way. As we pluck fresh oysters your guide/oyster farmer will happily share knowledge about oyster farming, its history and local knowledge of the area as we explore the Coffin Bay water ways. Depending on the weather, from the water you will experience all the beauty of the pure and pristine coastline, including time to spot the seals at The Brothers Islands, and slow to enjoy the dolphins if they appear along the way.
We’ll head back for our “Shellar Door” and see how the oysters are processed, grab some extras for “later on” and head to the iconic seafood restaurant – 1802 Oyster Bay to sample more fresh Coffin Bay seafood including King George Whiting, a favourite fish of the region. If you are not a seafood lover fear not, there are lots of other options.
After a shared feast of local produce, we head to the Old Mill, built in 1846 as part of a flour mill complex, it was never used for that purpose however now its fully restored and a lookout tower with amazing views over the city and Boston Bay.
Our final destination is the Eyre Peninsula’s only craft brewery – Beer Garden Brewing, to taste their signature Beer, Eyre Peninsula Ale. Not a beer drinker, that’s OK as the venue champions other great Eyre Peninsula products including food, cider, wine and coffee. We compliment the sipping local product with a cheese board trio and seasonal fruit, nuts and quince paste as well as a Boston Bay Smallgoods antipasto platter. Yum!
At the completion of the tour, we will drop you back to your Port Lincoln accommodation between 5pm and 5.30pm.
