FAQs

What clothes should I bring?

Australia has a relaxed attitude to standards of dress but depending on the time of year you are travelling you need to be prepared for the extremes.  Temperatures in Southern Australian in winter (June, July, August) can get quite cold with day time temperatures from 10-18 and night time temperatures can in can reach zero. Please ensure you pack appropriately.  You’ll be nice and snug when travelling in the vehicles and in your accommodation but for the outdoor activities you’ll need warm jackets and a raincoat just in case.

In summer daytime temperatures can be extreme from November to April with temperatures generally in the 30’s but sometimes reaching over 40 degrees Celsius.  Be prepared to endure extra physical stress due to the heat at these times, especially while on walks. If travelling in summer we recommend that you bring loose, cool, cotton clothing to protect yourself from the harsh sun. A sun hat, sunscreen and sunglasses are a must.

What other things do I need to pack?

With luggage restrictions you need to pack sensibility and light.  Please ensure you have comfortable walking shoes, a hat, jacket, raincoat, sunglasses, water bottle, swimmers, beach towel and of course a camera.

What are the vehicles that we travel in?

On our small group tours we travel in an Executive 7 seater 4WD (Toyota Saraha Landcruiser).  Larger groups and charters depending on group size will travel in a Toyota Commuter (14 people) or Toyota Coaster Bus (21 people)

Something to keep in mind is here in Australia we’re used to driving long distances on holiday, but you may not be. Take for example our 9 day Perth to Adelaide trip, this is about the same distance from Spain to Poland. Yes, it’s a big country! However, that’s why we think seeing Australia from the ground is better. We live in a country that has it all; stunning coastline and beaches, the outback, tropical rainforests, and some seriously amazing landscapes and wildlife. Whilst you may spend some days in the vehicle a little longer than others getting to the next destination, we think it’s worth it!

Who is our Guide?

Quite often on the Xplore Eyre tours you will be lucky enough to have Hassie, the company founder and owner as your guide.  If not, you can be assured it will be one of our other highly experienced and professional guides, who’s mission will be to make sure you have the trip of a lifetime.  Your guide will entertain you with Aussie yarns on long drives, educate you providing information on the places, history, culture and wildlife of areas you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, keep you safe and of course make sure everyone is having a great time.

In addition, all of our leaders are First Aid trained and certified.  We carry a satellite phone on all of our remote/overland trips to be used by our guide in the event of an emergency and for your safety.

What sort of accommodation do we stay in?

All of the accommodation providers we work with are excellent quality with some venues being award winning such as the Port Lincoln Hotel, Rawnsley Park Eco Villa’s and the Mercure on Kangaroo Island.  On our small group tours you will be staying in a range of 3.5 star accommodation from hotels, motels, Eco Retreats. Most of the accommodation is self-contained with a kitchenette.  If you upgrade to an Xplore Eyre Plus package to private touring accommodation then is upgraded to 4.5 stars.  It is generally in the same property but just a higher grade of room.  The location of the accommodation is stated on each individual day by day itinerary.

What sort of dietary requirements do you cater for?

We are happy to cater to passengers with most special diets but these and or food allergies MUST be informed at the time of booking.  Some of the food for the trip is purchased prior to commencement and special requirements cannot be catered for after departing.  If you have not notified us prior to departure, you may be asked to pay for any additional food yourself.  As many of our meals are at restaurants it is also beneficial if we can advise them prior to our arrival as well.

Do I bring all my luggage with me?

Flights are operated by Rex who have 15kg luggage restriction per person plus one 7kg carry on.  However, upon presenting a valid itinerary or ticket, passengers with international connections are permitted 20kg. For more details on Rex Baggage Allowance please visit their website.

On our extended tours we highly recommend you leave some of your luggage at your return accommodation in in Adelaide or Perth and just bring the essentials with you.  You will find most hotels willing to do this free of charge if you have a return booking.

How physically fit do I have to be?

We can be flexible depending on the passengers on each tour as to the level of physical activities that are done.  While we do some bush walking there is nothing too strenuous on these tours unless the passengers request it.

Where will I be picked up from?

You pick up location varies for each tour and is stated in day one of the day by day itineraries on each tour page.  As soon as you make a booking we send you a Pre-Departure Information pack which outlines all of the extra information you need.

We have a group of 30 wanting to do a tour, can you help us?

Your tours have a minimum of two people to travel. What happens if I am the only one?

In the highly unlikely event that you are the only confirmed booking on a departure there are a few options to choose from.  Firstly, a Single Supplement fee is offered to run the tour with only yourself.  This varies and we would contact you to advise.  Secondly, we reserve the right to cancel the tour and arrange an alternative operator (if possible).  If the alternative is not suitable we will refund your tour price in full.  Please read our full Booking Terms & Conditions prior to booking your tour
